Kinja'd!!!

That is mud not rust... I swear

New wheels and tires look great... but there is something seriously wrong. Over about 50 the steering wheel starts shaking and the car starts to feel unsettled. Thinking it is the garbage wheel spacers (new ones were delivered today) but could also be the alignment.

Current spacers:

Spacers delivered today:

So yeah... should be a lot better.

Going to take a new way home via surface streets. Weather sucks so I might pass on getting the alignment for a couple days.

I ran a set of 10mm on the back of my vw for a few years. They were hard to center, and then the extended bolts had a habit of snapping.

They taught me to avoid them.

Why are you running spacers? They look like stock wheels. Also to test you could take them off and see if there’s a difference.

Sketchy spacers, indeed.

I suspect a bad balance job, too: vibrations can come and go at any speed.

On the plus side those steelies are hot stuff.

My vote is that inner t ie rod ends are shot.

Also, jack the front up and start it and put it in gear. If the tires rotate straight and don’t start hopping, its not the wheels, spacers or tires.

Mild interference with the brake line mounting bracket and fender lining . The new wheels are off a 2002 and are 2" wider and have a 0.25" different offset.

I replaced them, so more likely my alignment is super out.

Yeah considering how crappy that Pep Boys was at everything else...

I should say the spacers are only 0.25", so nothing dramatic. I also added some context posts to the end.

They are.  I bought them because they were cheap and shipped with prime.  People convinced me to get some not shitty ones.

Oh okay I didn’t know that. My guess would be that the solid spacers would help. Good luck with it!

I’d get the spacers swapped out and an alignment (assuming the wheels/tires are balanced) and go from there.

A tape measure comparing the difference between track on front and rear of tire would tell you if alignment is grossly  out
